The Pace Car Mustang overview:

The Pace Car Registry of Mustangs (PCRoM) web site is a platform for documenting all aspects of the unique Mustang vehicles that had the opportunity to pace the Indianapolis 500 race held on Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis, Indiana.  The raceways’ location allowed the perfect opportunity for American Car Manufactures to showcase their latest advanced automobiles to the public since the raceways’ inception in 1903.  We’ve dedicated our efforts to preserve and obtain all the historic information available from original sources directly involved with the Mustang Pace Cars.

This registry has always placed the owners first, assisting them with the better understanding of these limited production vehicles available to the public through the Ford dealership network that sold them.

The PCRoM was formed in 1990 to dedicate its efforts to preserve and obtain all the historic information available from original sources directly involved with the Mustang Pace Cars design and build for Indianapolis marketing, but later expanded into the 1964 and first hand experiences of the 1994 program.

When the PCRoM was first formed the knowledge of those cars was at best known to be sketchy and even lacking knowledge on how to identify the 1979 program vehicles for anyone seeking to obtain an originally purchased car for future enjoyment.  After months of contacting various departments within Ford Motor Company, the Registry was able to obtain the first concrete evidence of total production numbers for those cars.  Ford’s Owner Relations department was instrumental in confirming the breakdown of cars produced, and shortly thereafter, confirmed the production numbers from the two plants producing Mustangs for distribution.

Anonymity of the owners had been the cornerstone of the PCRoM, and unless the owner chooses to make their information public to either the other members or the general public, the information is only compiled for a richer understanding of the cars as they were produced.  We ask that each participant who chooses to become involved fill out a complete registration form that gives these individuals a copy of the original paperwork on breakdowns of production from Ford and the ability to converse with other members that have passions for the cars.

1964 Pace Cars have produced a unique dilemma because the records for the 1964-66 models were destroyed long before the importance of those cars were recognized.  The reliance on owner’s knowledge and books with article information has been more of the norm in piecing the information together.

Because the PCRoM is not supported financially from the Ford Motor Company, the site must generate its revenue from the sale of previously licensed items that did take substantial investment to produce.  The Registry will not assist you in selling your vehicle should you decide to move onto other automotive projects, but can hopefully direct you to parts and service organizations that will assist in maintaining the cars for enjoyment by you, the owner.  All we ask is that you contribute to the fund by registering your car at a nominal fee which is then utilized to maintain the web site.

In the future, a Forum sub-site should become available, but monitoring of the site will be maintained by our organization.  Basic etiquette will be maintained with dignity towards all involved and no disrespect tolerated in any postings on the site.  This site is for maintaining the core values of the participants while being able to exchange information that benefits everyone.  We encourage you to be a part of the journey to establish all the records on the various years of cars, and look forward to your involvement in making it the first source of reference regarding the vehicles produced.
